It’s never dull in the AI field and we saw another busy day with numerous developments. Stability AI released Stability Doodle which creates stunning images in various styles from simple sketches. AI image generation is reaching new heights!
On the other side, China has unveiled new interim rules on generative AI models that are reportedly less onerous than those in the previous draft, and are supportive of the developments in the industry while taking care of public safety and national security.
Further, the funding frenzy doesn’t seem to get any light with Hugging Face planning to go for Series D round at a $4 billion valuation! There’s a lot to share so let’s not waste any time and get started with today’s fiery edition.

China unveils provisional generative AI rules: That include adherence to core socialist values, registration of algorithms that can influence public opinions, user protection against discrimination and anti-competitive behavior, and responsibility for illegal content.
Bard not in Canada: Bard expanded to 230 countries but not in Canada, as Google’s disputes continue with the Canadian government over Online News Act requiring revenue sharing with news publishers.
OpenAI Model Training on News Stories: OpenAI has added Associate Press to its growing list of partners to train its AI models on news stories dating back till 1985, in return for access to its technology and product expertise to AP.
Close watch on Bard: As Bard launches in the EU with increased transparency and user controls, the EU privacy regulators are closely monitoring it, and expect a review and report from Google affirming compliance with data protection laws.
Nvidia eyes Arm’s IPO: Nvidia is in discussions to become an anchor investor in Arm's IPO, which would allow Nvidia to expand beyond its core business in GPUs and enter the CPU market, in competition with Intel.
From slow + accurate to fast + inaccurate: With increasing user complaints of GPT-4’s responses getting poor, speculations are of a major redesign by OpenAI involving a Mixture of Experts approach that involves creating several smaller GPT-4 models that act similarly to the large model but are less expensive to run.

AI-powered IVF: Israel-based AIVF has developed AI-powered embryo evaluation software that has boosted IVF success rates by 30% for clinics using it.
HF Flies High: Hugging Face is planning to raise at least $200M in Series D funding round, at a staggering $4B valuation.
Funding for AI drug development: Causaly, a startup for accelerating drug discovery and development with AI, raises $60M in Series B funding for R&D.
AI in Stripe: Stripe has released Stripe Radar which allows users to create complex fraud prevention rules using simple text prompts.
Anthropic is conducting a Hackathon (July 29-30) in San Francisco, where participants will have access to Claude 2 API, with $10k+ cash prizes.
