Artificial Capable Intelligence in Two Years
PLUS: Meta's Multimodal Model, Hollywood on Strike, Current State of LLMs
Hey there 👋
The previous week’s start was all about OpenAI’s Code Interpreter and Anthropic’s Claude-2. But Bard stole all the limelight when Google released its updates. People experimented with it for various tasks with image prompts and it performed surprisingly well. We too have a sweet example for you!
Meta also released its image-generating model CM3leon which not only generates images but can also generate captions for images and explain them. What is surprising is that its training process is based on text-only models, demonstrating that tokenizer-based transformers can be trained to generate images also which are comparable to diffusion-based models.
We have many more interesting news from the industry to share with you so without any delay now, let’s roll!

Latest Developments 🌍
CM3leon by Meta: Meta has released CM3leon that can perform both text-to-image and image-to-text generation, achieving SOTA performance and producing more coherent imagery, despite being trained with a recipe used for text-only models requiring five times less computing.
Trained on significantly less 3B tokens, its zero-shot performance is comparable to Flamingo (100B) and OpenFlamingo (40B).
If AI can make $1 million: With AI models now easily passing the traditional Turing Test, Mustafa Suleyman from Inflection AI has proposed a modern Turing Test that should assess AI's ability to make a real-world impact, particularly generate $1M on a retail web platform within a few months using only a $100k investment.
He further introduces the concept of Artificial Capable Intelligence, between basic ML and the speculative AGI, something coming in a near-to-medium time.More on xAI: Elon Musk in a Twitter space last Friday discussed xAI's vision on understanding the universe and building a “good AGI”, while utilizing public tweets to train AI models and working closely with Tesla.
‘dot AI’ Bubble: AI is predicted to be a $1 trillion investment opportunity, but also the biggest bubble of all time, says Stability AI CEO Emad Mostaque.
Actors vs AI: Hollywood actors alongside screenwriters have gone on a strike, demanding AI regulations to protect them from being exploited and replaced, and prohibiting AI for writing or rewriting literary material and using works covered by union contracts to train AI.
Apparently, Hollywood studios proposed a controversial AI plan where background performers would be scanned and paid for one day, and have their replicas owned and used by the studios forever.Design Theft: Shein is being sued by designers who allege that the fast fashion firm's AI-based design algorithm repeatedly steals independent artists' work.
Workers Making AI Safe, Left Vulnerable: Kenyan workers who were outsourced the task of labeling harmful textual and graphic content to train AI models, have petitioned lawmakers for investigating their exploitation by Big Tech companies.
Samsung Browser + ChatGPT: Samsung is testing integration of ChatGPT into its own browser, to generate summaries of web pages.
AI for Warfare: Israel is reportedly using AI for identification of targets and handling logistics to conduct airstrikes on Palestine, raising ethical concerns and AI errors.
Computing Education Soars: With increasing popularity of AI and digital advancements, more students are opting for computer and AI-related courses steering a 10% rise in applications to study computing.
How to Use AI to Do Stuff: An Opinionated Guide on the current state of LLMs for a variety of tasks.
Can AI be an Inventor (legally)?: As generative AI models become increasingly capable, experts are debating whether AI can be an inventor for IPRs.
Indian Companies Falling Behind: A study reveals that 3 out of 4 Indian businesses struggle to leverage AI effectively, while successful AI adoption could generate an additional Rs 1.5-2.5 trillion over 5 years.
Global Dialogue on AI: UN Security Council will discuss the risks associated with AI in its first formal discussion on the topic, led by Britain.
Tools of the Trade ⚒️
Submagic: AI-powered captions for videos along with emojis for highlighting key points, transcribes audio in 48 languages.
Air AI: Conversational AI that can perform 10-40 minute long sales & customer service calls over the phone while sounding like a human.
Capacities: A studio-like platform that breaks the traditional file-keeping system, and stores and organizes your knowledge as colorful objects.
Verble: AI speechwriting assistant for impactful speeches, guiding your thoughts, providing drafts, and offering smart editing techniques.
Cycle: Quickly capture feedback, extract insights, create roadmaps, and share product updates, directly in Slack.
